5 Food and Nutrition Quiz Bowl Practice, Lubbock Christian School, 26th and Dover, 4:30-5:45 PM. Contact Ronda by October 5 if you plan to participate. Other practice dates will be: October 11, 19, 26 and November 2.
8 one day 4-H Community Service Day, South Plains Food Bank Farm, 304 76th Street, 9 AM. 10-12 noon working at the farm. Bring your collected donations by the County Extension Office on October 7th if you cannot attend on October 8th.
11 Consumer Life Skills Project Orientation, County Extension Office, 6:00 PM. The Consumer Decision-making contest teaches youth decision-making skills by involving them as consumers hypothetically making different purchases. Come find out how to spend your dollars wisely. If you aren’t able to attend but still interested in participating, please contact Ronda.
12 County-Wide Food & Nutrition Project Tour – Afternoon activities will include: 4:30 PM – Tour Sprouts Grocery Store, 82nd and Quaker; 5:20 PM – Tour and fitness information at Cardinals Sports Center, Slide and South Loop. All 4-H’ers and parents are invited to participate in the tour. Please RSVP to the Extension Office by noon on October 10 if you plan on participating. Parents are needed to assist with transporting 4-H’ers on the tour.

Awards program held following completion of judging. – This is an optional activity, in which 4-H’ers prepare a food and participate in an interview with judges to demonstrate what they have learned through their project. Entry materials for the food show are due no later than 5pm on Friday, October 14, to the County Extension Office. See the 4-H Food and Nutrition Project Fall 2011 Newsletter for more information.
24 County 4-H Dairy Foods Judging Workshop, County Extension Office, 916 Main, Suite 201, 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM. District 2 will again have a Dairy Judging Contest. At the workshop, we will review the contest guidelines, taste the different milk’s and cheese included in the contest and learn a little bit more about Dairy foods. Please RSVP by Monday, October 24 by 12 noon, if you will be attending.
25 Deadline to sign up for District Educational Exhibit, Call the County Extension Office. – All 4-H’ers are welcomed to prepare an educational exhibit related to Food and Nutrition to set up at the District Food Show. Participants must furnish their own table/easel.
