Items on the agenda will include topics such as: emerging irrigation technologies, irrigation scheduling tools, soil moisture sensors, and cost-share opportunities for these irrigation tools.  Producers will also hear suggestions on how to optimize limited water. In addition to the presentations, workshop participants will have the opportunity to visit with several exhibitors involved in the Irrigation Industry.  This meeting is targeted to crop producers in Hale and Lubbock Counties, but producers in surrounding counties are also welcome to attend. No pre-registration is required.  Registration, breakfast snacks, and visits with exhibitors will begin at 8:30 a.m.; and presentations will begin at 9 a.m.

Local artist June Musick will inspire students to match the beauty of nature with their own watercolor landscapes. Topics will include sketching, achieving color saturation, and the finer points of plein air watercolor. Class time will be a “hands on” experience, working in the medium outdoors amongst the wildflowers at the Landmark (weather permitting). Class size will be limited. Materials needed: small watercolor paint palette, water filled brushes or regular brushes and a water container, small spray bottle, pen or pencil, sketch book, 140 pound watercolor paper best suited for paint. Optional materials: plexiglass for your lap, folding chair, hat, sunscreen.

Learn how to capture beautiful images of flowers in bloom. Topics will include the fundamentals of nature photography, wildflower identification, and capturing close up and landscape images. The lecture will be led by Kippi Hopper, a local expert in photography. Following the course, participants are encouraged to practice their new skills among the basket flowers in full bloom at the Landmark. Class size will be limited. Materials needed: camera, paper, pen or pencil “Plants may be considered a living and natural art. Good plant selection and thoughtful design can add an artistic flair to the landscape and to a home.” says AgriLife Extension Horticulture Specialist, Vik Baliga. “This series of classes will be a great way to learn to both design and capture an artful landscape.”
